Description/Purpose

The Purpose of the guide is to address the needs of two different kinds of GroupWise administrators when they implement GroupWise 7 on a Linux platform. Some administrators will implement GroupWise 7 for Linux in a limited manner. . . where it makes sense. Other administrators will implement GroupWise in an environment that is already immersed in Linux.

This guide is really two guides bound into one guide. There are three major sections to this guide. They are as follows:

GroupWise 7 for Linux Server Requirements and Basics

Administrators looking to implement any part of GroupWise 7 for Linux will need to know what is required for the Linux server, and some of the basics of working with Linux. This section will be helpful for Administrators new to Linux. Administrators already immersed in Linux will only need to review this section to make sure they have fulfilled all of the requirements.

GroupWise 7 for Linux Integration Section

This section of the guide is for administrators looking to implement portions of their GroupWise system on Linux. These Administrators are already using a NetWare Server/Windows workstation environment. These Administrators may have very little knowledge of how to run Linux, so this guide is written in such a manner that much of the basics commands of Linux are illustrated so as to provide a fast-track for a GroupWise administrator to implement Linux.

GroupWise 7 for Linux Full Implementation Section

This section is written for administrators looking to fully implement GroupWise 7 for Linux on the Linux platform. This includes fully administering GroupWise from ConsoleOne running on Linux. This environment will not have any dependencies on an existing NetWare infrastructure or any need for Windows workstations.

Both of these guides will be written in such a manner that they should be considered a companion to the Novell’s GroupWise Administrator's Guide, available at www.taykratzer.com. The one assumption made throughout this guide is that the reader is familiar with the basics of GroupWise. References to the Novell Press GroupWise Admnistrator's Guide are often made throughout this guide.
