I wrote this page to help you learn Linux. I had to learn Linux (very quickly at that) after Novell aquired SUSE Linux. Even before the acquisition though, I dabbled in Linux and kept looking for books that would help me get over the initial learning curve for Linux. There are a lot of Linux books, but most of them are written by Linux/Unix people that have been working with Linux for years. I found that they just assumed too much.
Just about any Linux book will go over the history and theory of Linux. Make sure to read up on this - an understanding of Linux's roots will help you understand some of the caveats of Linux.
I now feel very comfortable with Linux, but I still remember what it felt when I got an *.rpm installation file and thought "OK, so what do I do now?". That's why I wrote the document Basic Linux Commands. If you read just a few pages, you should already feel comfortable at a Linux Terminal/Shell prompt.
